HEy everyone! Thanks!!! It's been the week and I still am not sure what I am suppose to be doing!
** Bake sales are out of the question per the school district.
I am understanding the teacher is going with the student and now Mom wants to go too. I understand she is a working single mom but I would have thought too that she would have said something sooner! You know like LAST YEAR when this started!
We do have two ideas that will offer quick returns for this, a middle school skate party and/or the staff and teacher will be asked to dress in the school uniform for a day with a $1 donation (or more) on a dress down day for the students. These are what I'm waiting to hear back.
I shouls have never handed out the entire budget! Than No ONE would really know how much money we "kinda" have!!! HA!!
Hold bake sales. If you hold one outside the school, do it by donations. Really this is not a PTO matter. We wouldn't hand over money that was raised for the school/teachers/students. If you do it for one, how many others will there be? Good luck!!!!
My first thought who is going with her? I would hope to think that she would not be going alone. So could the adult that is supposed to go with her trade places with her mother?
So that might not work. Community outreach is needed here. Contact the newpapers and other media in your area. Hold special "fundraisers" for the trip. Show your support by starting a special bank account and maybe donating $50 to the fund in the name of the PTO. Get the word out, I truly believe that if the community is aware of this special trip, they will step up to the plate. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Our group also wouldn't do that, yes it makes you look bad but these people had enough noticed to ask for donations and do furndraisng so the guilt shouldn't be on your shoulders. A Pto is for the whole school...not one family!

There is no way our group would pay $500 out to benefit 1 or 2 people. Especially when there are so many more people who could be benefitted by that amount. So many programs that could be supported, like additional tutoring and testing. We are down to the wire, too. Honestly, I would ask local businesses or churches. I would be extremely frustrated by the last minute thing. That is one of the big no-no's when dealing with me. If it is last minute, it better be a last minute thing not something that someone just didn't think about or plan for.
