September 7, 2005

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Welcome back to school! West Elementary PTA is very eager to begin the 2005-2006 school year. The PTA has been working hard to prepare for the Opening Day festivities. Our mission as parents is to work collaboratively and collectively with the faculty, staff and administration of West Elementary. Mrs. Sharon Wright has volunteered to serve as the PTA Teacher Representative.

The PTA has allocated $7.00 per child for field trips (a $1/child increase). When requesting funds, the attached form should be completed and returned to the PTA mailbox (Don't forget Ms. Badger's signature). Requests should be submitted with a two-week turnaround time.

The PTA has also allotted funds for grade level/building-wide assemblies. The budget line is limited so we encourage staff to submit assembly requests (using the attached form) in a timely manner. Similar to field trip requests, a two-week turnaround timeframe is needed. Please complete the attached form, have Ms. Badger sign it and return it to the PTA mailbox in the Main Office.

The West Elementary PTA is a success because of the combined efforts of parents, faculty and administration. Last year faculty and staff membership signified a high level of support of the PTA initiatives. However, we missed our goal of 100% faculty membership. The PTA Executive Board hopes that all staff and faculty will become a PTA member for this coming school year. Membership forms are enclosed. Your membership dues of $5.00 (checks payable to West Elementary PTA) support field trips, assemblies, author visits, Earth Spirit Day, Red Ribbon Week, Teacher/Staff Recognition Luncheon, PARP, Fine Arts Night and countless other events. Membership forms and dues can be returned to the PTA mailbox located in the Main Office or given directly to Mrs. Sharon Wright.

We are looking forward to working together to make the 2005-2006 school year a fantastic one! Thank you for all the amazing things you do for our children!

Sincerely,

West Elementary PTA Board

PTA Survey Results

In June of 2005, the West Elementary PTA sought the input of faculty and staff regarding PTA activities. We were thrilled, pleased and impressed with the quality, thoughtfulness and suggestions offered. The suggestions offered triggered many PTA Executive Board discussions this past summer. As a result we have taken those ideas and are in the process of implementing positive changes.

Some of the suggestions already put into action are:

<caron> Develop a Teacher/Staff Welcome Back Packet - To improve and increase PTA & Faculty communication

<caron> Increase Field Trip Funds - The PTA has allocated an additional $1/child for the 2005-2006 school year. The total per child is now at $7/child

<caron> Reschedule Earth Spirit Day - This event will occur in February with a “Winter” theme

<caron> Eliminate Santa's Visit during the school day - Many staff felt this activity was too disruptive to instruction. DON”T worry Santa will still make an appearance for all of those on the “nice list” during a PTA family event

<caron> PARP - More faculty and staff input will be requested in planning this wonderful literacy month-long celebration. PARP will occur in January rather than the very busy month of March. Stay tuned for more details to help us ring in the New Year with reading.

The PTA welcomes continued input and feedback
