Our principal acts as the PTO advisor and we (or the principal) appoint two teacher liaisons to the board. This works great for our group because the information they bring to the meetings helps us decided where & how money will be spent and keeps us informed about the going-ons in the school!

No idea why...I agree with your assessment, though. The problem is that she won, so there's nothing I know that can be done about it. Thank you for your response.

Currently we have a treasurer who is a faculty membe. HOwever, this teacher is very involved with student activities and the organization in general. I have no problem with a faculty member in a board position AS LONG AS they have shown SOME INTEREST AND INVOLVEMENT IN THE PAST. Having a faculty member become a board memberwho has not demonstrated this is, to me, like having some unknown parent who has never come to a meeting or volunteered decide they want to run for a board position. Me thinks, there is certainly an order to things like becoming involved and understanding the life and flow of an organization FIRST.

I find it Very interesting that aschool nurse who has not had any involvement whatsoever would want to do this? Any ideas as to why?

Our elementary PTO has a large Board comprised of elected officers, committee chairs, and 4 permanent faculty positions: Principal, Vice Principal, plus 2 staff positions (appointed by the Principal). Per our bylaws, a faculty member couldn't be an elected officer. But they could be a committee chair.

Our middle school PTO is run less formally and has no such restrictions. Staff members have been officers in the past, even president. Although they've usually also been parents of current students at the time.

We have had STaff members try to run for positions on our Executive Board but because of their contractual agreements, they can not run as an Executive Board Member but can run for any position nonn-Executive.
Given your circumstances, if no one else was willing to step up to the plate and the Principal is okay with it, go with it.
