Dear Dover, Looks great to me!! :D One of those great ones. Are you a PTO person who has the position of website designer? Do you know what is typical for the PTOs to do? Do you hire someone or is their a tech ed person at the school who does it? Wondering the logistics here. Thanks for your reply

I am the PTO President and I just happen to design website for fun during my limited spare time. That saves us the expenese of hiring a designer and webmaster. I will be teacher some parents that are interested in learning how to update the website for next year, when I retire. :D

Dear Ladybug,

We are very close neighbors. Thanks for all the info and I think your website is great. I will be trying out the link you provided. I am curious, how do you get your families to pay $20. for a membership? You can email me directly. We are within minutes of eachother and maybe we can help eachother with the issues of our PTO/PTSOs. Thanks for responding to my post.

Hi neighbor, Frazzled! I'm with the PTSO at a neighboring high school! The PTSO also has it's own page through the high school website, but it sometimes took a week or two for new info to be posted.
So, recently I read about setting up a website for free at orgsites.com from another forum discussion, and I made our 'new' website in a matter of hours just a few weeks ago! It's so easy to update, and NO ads!! And I can update it any minute of the day...or night!
See our site here: PF-PTSO
I've never worked on a website before, but there are basic directions and easy edit features. And I've been working on adding graphics and colored font, etc. I highly recommend this for the website beginner!

It's a really complicated process to get approval from LCPS for a direct link to be set up on the HS site, so we decided to just advertise our new site by emailing a link to our members and publishing it in the newsletter. E-mail with the PTSO e-mail address (me) if you have any questions!

Thank you all to have responded..and keep 'em coming. I am learning so much from you all.

Myschel, loved your website also. I am so impressed by what is out there. Just have no experience building or maintaing one. Would not know where to start.

ScottsMom#1, sounds like we are in the same boat. Our county's schools have the PTO websites linked to theirs. And in the past the computer tech assistant has helped. But ours is so old and has not been redone in over a year. Check it out at

I think it is an embarrasment and we are losing a valuable tool and source of information. Thanks again for your encouragement and experience. ;)

Our school has it's own website and even though no PTO has used it before, they are willing to add our information to it. Is that a possibilty for you? Our bylaws state you can only hold office for one year unless reelected to another term otherwise, we wouldn't have a board because most of us have served before and there aren't many parents that come that aren't given the chance to be a member. Good luck with your new job!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I am the Secretary. I also do the do the newsletter and maintain our website. However it is not under the secertary description in our bylaws. I just enjoy doing these things - I love to create!

I do not make copies (unless I have the time). We actually have a copying committee that meets every Wed. to make copies and stuff folders. (We have a Thursday Folder that goes out every week w/ all school news.)

We are a new PTO so we are still recruiting, but the goal is to have as many people on as many different committees as possible.

As a new PTO we have no money for website space yet. Though that may be changing soon. I did find a place w/ free space that is working great for now. The only problem is I am limited w/ some of my choices. If you do not know html then something like this could be great for you. Here is the address if you'd like to check it out.
