Golf Tournament

Mother of 3,

Golf Tournaments can be VERY profitable, however, you must keep in mind soooooo many variables.
1. How many students does you school have?
2. Greens fees
3. Advertising
4. Parents in your school who are already golfers.

This is just a few questions to keep in mind when preparing. It is not difficult to implement a tournament. You will need volunteers up front to help with brochures, flyers, donation requests, advertising and general planning, but the day of the tournament you only need a handful of volunteers to help at various times and your done!

For the amount of parental/volunteer help, the money raised is substantial. My suggestion would be for you begin on the internet. Type in "how to plan a golf tournament" You will be surprised what you learn.

I had never stepped foot on a golf course before the day of my tournament. If I can do it..YOU can do it!

Feel free to e mail me with any additional questions.

Good Luck!

Thanks BMiller...I am looking forward to this year's tournament. I have added a few new contests and a local car dealership donated the Hole in One car, so I am confident this will be a great year for us!

Good Luck to you as well!

I helped with several golf tournaments even though I am not a golfer. We make most of our money with the entry fees and soliciting hole sponsorships. We also have sold ‘mulligans’ (golf term for I get a do over on that last shot), a percentage of photographers fees and a putting contest. Most courses don’t allow you to bring in your own food or drinks, and if you can talk them in to it they charge you a surcharge per player, so we have never made money from concessions. We do solicit donations for lunch, try our best to get the surcharge waived from the course and have the clubhouse provide the dinner and cash beer carts. We provide water and snacks at the par 3's by just leaving an ice chest at the holes. Usually the course will help you organize everything as they want new golfers trying out their course. We have even solicited the course and received two memberships - One that we used as a door prize at the tournament and one that we used as an item in a silent auction at a separate event. That’s something else you could add - a silent auction, and then invite others to join you at the awards ceremony for a fee that would cover their dinner. Good luck!

We do one every year. The money is made off of the entrance fees and refreshments. We also sell extra polo shirts (the participants get one as part of their fee) with the school logo.

We had a Bass Fishing Tourney last spring. We have a lot of fishermen around here.

I know nothing about golf, but we do have some courses around here. I think the high school has done this before. How does it work?
