Hello everyone! New to the board but very informative. Our elementary school has what we call a Pumpkin Glow. It is held on the Sat before Halloween. We try to get donations from local super markets, local growers where ever we can get pumpkins and we give every one of the pumpkins to the kids to take home to carve and then the pumpkins are brought back to school on the day of the Glow and they are set up by a wonderful group of volunteers. We put candles and glow sticks in the pumpkins and have them set up in such a way that you walk thru paths and enjoy all the work the kids have done. We sell hot apple cider, popcorn and we charge a couple of dollars for the entrance fee, but we invite the public. Our school has sucessfully raised over $1200.00 and the budget for this event is around $300.00 so every year we do better and better.
Could you tell me where you got your glow sticks?
Did you get your refreshements dontated?
How did you get the pumpkins home with each child, especially the little ones on a school bus?

I am also in MA and we host a "Pumpkin' Decorating with Dad" event that has been extremely successful over the last several years. We have a local garden center that provides pumpkins at cost (approx. 33 cents each). We charge $1 for each participant. We have tried several variations of decorating: painting, stick-on faces, googly eyes, etc. Painting was the most popular, and of course the messiest! We were able to secure boxes from BJs and several local package stores to help transport the wonderful creations home. We provide a small snack and drink, coloring pages and a Halloween video for the kids to watch while we draw the prizes for our fall raffle, most of which are geared towards the dads. It's been very successful as an event in conjunction with the fall fundraiser.
I would love to get any info on a farmer in eastern Ma, specifically Boston area. The Pumpkin patch idea sounds like alot of fun. We are always looking for new ideas. We have a haunted house, but it is scary for the younger kids.
