Fundraising survey of parents

18 years 4 months ago #87834 by ademom74
We have done surveys in the past but I don't really trust the data. We have approx. 400 families in our school and we get maybe 30 surveys returned.
It seems that the only parents who return them are the ones with gripes, saying
'NO MORE FUNDRAISERS'. Yet we always do well when we sell things, be it wrapping paper, cookie dough or candy.
I would not base future fundraising on the results of a survey. It is better to track trends over time. If you see that your fall fundraiser or spring craft fair continually bring in less revenue or are poorly attended, then rethink them or change the time of year they occur.

I have to say, with the letter I wrote(above)
our walk a thon was a huge success. We only had one major fundraiser that raised 12K. Then we just sold chocolate pops for Valentine's Day. WE paid .50 per pop and sold them for 1.00. We made 1300.00! We made it a contest and gave away (2) 25.00 Gift Certicates for toys r us!
It was great!

June 2005

Hello parents,

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am Lisa Gargaro and I will take the position of PTO President for the upcoming school year. I am very excited and anticipate a great 2005-2006 school year! After meeting with the new executive board, we have come up with some great ideas for the upcoming year. At this time, we feel it is very important and necessary, to keep an open line of communication with the parents and teachers in the school. Our goal is to find out what you want. We realize that it is not always easy for everyone to attend the PTO meetings but we value your opinion, and want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be heard. Therefore, it is very important that you take the time to read the bottom survey and kindly remit it back to us. Any and all feedback is welcome.

FUNDRAISING GOAL: $25,000 (circle your choices)
Walk-A-Thon: Previous earned $6309. No overhead, no expense,
during school hours.

Pizza Coupon: Purchase coupon for $10 (100% profit). Entitles
Redeemer special offers good for an entire year.

Flat Donation: Give what you would like to the school. 100% profit.
Tax benefit to family. For example, there are currently
264 families in our school community. If each family
gave a $100 gift we would hit our goal for the year.

Frozen deserts: Previously earned $2400. One-day pickup.

Worthington Catalogs: Previously earned $7400. Includes flags, candles, holiday
Wrap, etc.

Candy Bar Sales: Box of 52 count we will earn $26. Based on selling 300
Cases = $7800.

Yankee Candle: Standard catalogs. Profit 40%

SOCIAL PROGRAM
We want to know which one below you would prefer for the upcoming year.
Father-Daughter “&” Mother-Son Event_______(2) separate events Or A Family Dance_______________

Replied by Melissa Constantine on topic RE: Fundraising survey of parents
Here is what we send out:

Dear Parents,

Fundraising is something that we don’t like to do, but it is something that must be done if we want to give our children the “extras” that aren’t included in tuition fees. In the past, the PTO has made all of the decisions regarding fundraising, but now we are asking for your input. We will be starting our spring fundraiser with Home Interiors candles on March 20th, and we are asking for your help in determining what fundraiser(s) we will be doing next year. Our fall fundraiser (catalog sale) will once again be with Paragon Promotions. We had a positive response to that company and will use them again next year.

On the back is a list of fundraising ideas that we have found, and we want to know your opinion. Since it is the parents who do most of the selling, we would like to know what you want to sell. We are hoping to only have to have two fundraisers for the 2006-2007 school year, but we may have to do a third, if the first two don’t bring in the revenue we need. Please mark your choice(s) of what you would be interested in selling, and return this form by Friday, March 18.

Have you ever wondered what the PTO does with the money that is raised? Some of the things that we have paid or will pay for this year are:

Weekly Readers or other periodicals for each student
Bus fees for field trips
Kindergarten Phonics curriculum
Family fun events, such as movie night
Accelerated Reader tests & library books
Refreshments for school programs, such as Veteran’s Day & graduations
Young Authors books and T-shirts
New digital thermometer for the clinic

We are always looking for new ideas and can use more help. If you would like to join PTO, it is not too late. Our next meeting will be Monday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the library. Elections for next year’s offices will be coming up soon, and if you are interested in a leadership position, please contact the school office.

Thank you.

We only send it out to the K-4th grade parents, as our current 5th graders will be in middle school next year. We didn't get a large number of them back last year, and when people complain about what we are doing this year I always ask if they turned in their survey form. Usually the answer is "no", and I remind them to return the form this year as every vote counts.

HTH!

We did this at the end of last school year. Got hardly any of the survey's back. If I can find a copy of it I'll post it. Hope you have better response than we did.
