Getting away from junk food fundraising

I understand about selling junk food stuff. I think it's bad for the kids to be around and to sell. I mean we're trying to become a healthier society- but can't when our kids are pushing junk food. I started selling Pink Zebra and they do some AWESOME fundraisers. Then you are selling candles and lotions not food. PLUS everything lasts - no expiration date :) If you would like anymore information - please call me at (828) 593-0163 or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You could try selling toilet paper as a fundraiser. It raises great money and since it's delivered in bulk to your school, your parents pay the same or less than they would if they went to the grocery store.

Thanks, above poster on DVD store fundraising. But I was unable to find any info (using your link) on just how much of a cut the organization doing the fundraising actually gets with this plan. Can you illuminate me?

I understand ebay has a plan where groups can hold garage sale deals where they auction donated stuff, and it is grouped under your organizations name, so buyers will know their purchase is supporting your good cause.

I also like Walmart's plan where they will match up to $1,000 earned in fundraisers held in their parking lot.

There are so many great non-food fundraisers available, it is sad so many PTO's stoop to unhealthy cookie dough and candy sales.

At our elementary school we did a parent survey last spring. We asked the families what they wanted/expected out of the PTA. Did they like our fundraisers? Did they like our family events,e tc. Everyone who responded (not that many really) said they are tired of selling candles, candies, wrapping paper, etc...they would much rather just "donate" money to the PTA. So our principal came up with the idea of a different kind of fundraiser...we call it our Fitness Fundraiser. The kids pick an activity they want to do, jump rope, walk or jog around field, kick soccer ball. Parents and friends then pledge money to the student for each time the student reaches his/her goal (10 laps = 5.00) We are having this during the school day. The PE teacher is helping us. We are having parents volunteer to help us run the stations & tally up kids cards, etc. We are also having a raffle for the kids. For every goal they have accomplished we will give them a raffle ticket toward prizes (balls, jump rope, etc). We thought it would be great to have a fundraiser for our school actually done by the kids, all the money will go to the school..it's exercise...and the cost for us to run it will be small.

I have no idea how this will go, I think it could be a great success. Parents that I have mentioned this to are all for it. I'll let you know at the end of the month how we do.

That sounds wonderful! I don't really understand scratch cards yet, and just know they are often used for fast food, so I'm really glad to hear they can be used for real food!

I know just the Mexican restaurant we can use here, our favorite place. Getting hungry just thinking about it.

Timony, what was the fundraiser?
FamilyMan, what was the restaurant?

We've got a huge problem with ballooning kids at our school, 40 more becoming fat each year, and this is in a 3 grade 800 student school.

So I hope you don't say you raised your funds selling junk food, or you sold scratch cards for a fast food outlet.
