Returned Checks

That's exactly why we use an agency. We may not always get our money, but they have much better luck collecting for us and in the end, the fee they return to us is bigger than our bank's fee. So we actually make money on bounced checks.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Thanks everyone.

Of course, she didn't get unpaid for items. However, it's cookie dough and we had to buy it before all the checks evidiently cleared.

I sent a letter requesting payment, no response. I'm sure I can sell the cookie dough; however, how on earth do I collect the bounced check fee?

We try to collect the money once...in cash, including all bank fees. If the person does not make good, we send them a registered letter saying it will be turned over to the worthless check unit at the DA's office if it is not paid. It's amazing how fast that cash comes in. We have not had to turn one over yet.

Our PTA has a $25 returned check fee. We also make sure to deposit all money to make sure that the checks clear before we have the fundraiser Pick up. If they haven't paid, they don't get their package. We aren't penalized by the fundraising company if we cancel the order. We make sure to state up front on the order form that there is the $25 return check fee.

You should also see if a local recovery agency will work with you. If we get a bad check, our bank sends it directly to Checkrite and they work to collect right away. When they do, we get an additional $5 to pay our bank fees. This is just a nice thing to have set up so that no matter what happens with the next PTO group there is a system in place.

You need to contact the woman who gave you the order. Tell her the check was returned and that you need her to remit the payment and that you also need the money for the 1 item that is still unpaid. I would also tell her that the bank charged you a $3.50 return fee on the check and that you would appreciate them paying the bank fee and that you need this money ASAP as the merchandise is already here and the PTO is out the money.

What kind of items are these anyway? I am just wondering that if you get stuck with them can you find another way to use them to get the money back.
