Ouch! PTOToday has a partnership with "PaySchools" which, I think, has only a 4% fee.

You don't need to join PayPal (though they'd love it if you did); you can just type in the credit card number on the site, along with an e-mail address to send the receipt to.

Really? A 1099? Did you get one?

I didn't give them my SSN, but I did give them my credit card #; they wanted one or the other to lift the $500 per month withdrawal limit. I don't know if they can extract my SSN from my credit card company (you'd think they couldn't, but what do they need *my* credit card for, if it's the PTO's PayPal account, and the PTO's bank account that all the money goes into?).

The problem with paypal also is that if you make too much money and use your ssn- you will get a 1099 from them for your taxes-- I would look into this further if I was you.

We're using The Paperless PTO

This is a new service that is catered just for parent teacher organizations. It is a turn key solution that enables you to offer all of your services online and your members can pay by credit card, e-check or traditional check.

This system also reports on your financial activity, manages your volunteers, publishes your directory, and can automate virtually any task your PTO does. It's a life saver as far as time and planning go.

They do charge 6.5% of what goes through the system, but it has many other features that PTO's can benefit from that do not cost you anything. We started out slowly with it, but now use it for just about everything.

Good Luck!

We tried Paypal but it was a huge ordeal. People who purchased had to join Paypal. Some don't have emails.

We found a credit card company that seems to specialize in setting up organizations that do events and auctions. Event-Assist -- Home . Unlike the others we found, they did not have any setup, monthly, or recurring fees. And we could cancel anytime no penalty. The thing we liked best is that they supplied a credit card terminal for us to use, and then return when our event was over. The fees were 7% plus .75 per transaction but when we figured all that there were no recurring fees, it made a lot of sense.

Many on our board did not believe that credit cards would even be used. They were wrong. Once people saw that they could pay on a card, they were more apt to purchase and when we looked at the data, we saw that people who used their credit card spend more money. The only drawback we saw was that the company held a 10% reserve for 90 days to cover returns/chargebacks. Was no big deal really but seemed like it at first.
