Our school is k-5 and has 24-34 per class. The one's with 34 started around 30 at the beginning of the school year and more have been added (a lot of residential housing going up in our school district).

I believe that all clases that have over 28 get an aide, as well as each class has parent volunteers nearly daily to help as well.

Ours in Cali are 20-22 students K-3 and 22-24 in 3-5 at our Elementary.
They will be a little smaller next year 2 new classrooms and teachers, plus 2 new full day Kindergarten classrooms

OUr classes average 20-25 but never more than 30. That is our K-6th grade, now Middle School is a little different as they switch rooms, I'd say my daughter was with 15-20 classmates through the day. Now our High school MAY have 200 students TOTAL 9-12 grades so I'm sure the class sizes are very small! We had 9 (NINE) Seniors graduate Sat. so you can about image how close these kids are!

Much has been talked about the size of our elementary grades. Many parents were more upset that the school hired another teacher weeks before school started as we had enough students to have a 5th fifth grade class! you know instead of turning them away.....
Now my daughter was in a class of 30+ in the 6th grade. The teacher swore she could handle it and I hate to say it but she couldn't and didn't. Fourtunatly the new Dept. Head for the 6th grade learned from that and WILL NOT accept more than 25 per class and I appalude her. Wish my daughter would have had her as a teacher too!!

Some kids do have a hard time with the smaller high school atmosphere and leave but others love it and thrive! Obviously the ones that leave are also the ones that know the Dean very well! Unfortunatly, we have become the school of choice for pregnant teens looking to finish school out of the evil eyes of "normal" high school. I say unfortunate because we were commended for having 0% teen pregnancy to 75%in one year! Something our new school board will look at, along with the size our kindergarten has gotten to!

sorry....first day home with the "fab five" and felt good to say something besides NO! ;)

My son has had about 18 kids in his class for the last 3 years--K-2nd grade. Thats about average in our elementary school. My other son will start Kindergarten this fall and only 56 kids are registered so far--so it will be about 14 in a class--my daughter in middle school has about 20 in each of her classes. We only have about 1100 students in our whole school district-elementary, middle and high school.

Didn't realize how lucky we are. We don't have any classes over 20. K has about 15 and the rest are 17-19.

Our superintendent made a pledge to keep class sizes small and he has really gone out of his way to do it. I guess that is why we are growing and districts around us are not.

In addition, we have a full-time K-4 music teacher, art teacher, science teacher, PE teacher, and part-time GT teacher.

The year my son was in K there were 25+ in each room, for the most of the year they were over cap.

In 1996 California participated in Class Size Reduction Program. Their sizes are supposed to be around 20 for K-3. I am pretty sure that is ours too and 30 for 4-5 grade.
