I like this one. The family could really participate and you know how we are asked to xeroscape more to conserve water. A small bench with a dedication on it in the garden and (I'm on a roll ;) ) bricks around the garden with families names that helped or just goto the school. EB Rains in Northglenn has a terrific brick walk way that was done through community support (as an idea).

Those are all great ideas - thanks everyone. One I especially liked was maybe a planter, and we could ask if families at the school want to purchase a flower for the planter (maybe $5 each) in his memory, then give the money to his family.

hi "zilla"
So sorry to hear about your school's loss. I'm just a hop away in Thornton. A thought, a park bench in his memory by the tree and some flowers. That would be such a nice touch. The bench could even have a plaque on it marking the dedication. Maybe even a planter. I've seen that done at a hospice and was just so nice, families would purchase them in memory and many still come by to care for the plants.

WHatever you decide, I know his widow will be touched.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the loss!
We lost a student last year due to an undetected heart problem. She just collaped at a birthday party.
We released baloons in her favorite color. They have to be biodegradable. Check with local laws.

We are building a playground this so naturally, it will have a plaque in her honor. We are also planning a little sitting area near but, not close to the playground with flowers in her favorite color & possibly a bench with her picture.

I Love the tree idea!! We do this in my family at every birth, death & marriage. There is a tree called a flowering evergreen that blooms beautiful flores in winter! (In GA anyway) Very affordable! My personal favorite is dogwood.

I would check with the family later, soon but not too soon & see what they recomend!

I'd like to hear what you decide!

Sorry to hear about your schools loss.

We have done trees with little plaques in front of our school for students of ours that have died. We also have plaques with a picture of them in the front hallway. The plaques say their name and then say something like "You are always in our hearts".

Some schools also donate books to the library and the books are labled in the front cover that they are donated in this persons memory.
