Our President quit in Feb. She has done nothing but bad talk the PTO since. While Prez she donated $75 to an "opt-out" of fundraising that she sent out while President. She now wants the money back because we are not using the funds the way she wanted to. It doesn't say anything in our by-laws about Refunds! The letter said the money would go towards PTO operating expenses, not towards anything specific.

No. A donation is not usually taken back and sounds like she is trying to say now she gave a gift. I would ask if their is someone with your school's business office/team that could type up a nice letter thanking her family for the inkind donation. something that would also state how this donation is tax deductible.

Sorry Charlie, but if she really presses it, show her in reciets how the money HAS been spent on paper or other crazy items for the PTO....you knowletterhead, envelope, postage, time and talent for her letter to tell her THANKS FOR THE CASH BABE!!! :D :D :D

the term "indian giver" comes to mind, but probably politically uncorrect/incorrect to use this term today. in any event, she certainly didnt get much supoort in this venue for a refund. just shows y'all how great minds must think alike. (SMILEY)

I guess it doesn't cease to amaze me how people think.

If she gave the donation to the say Red Cross, her church, cancer society, whatever would they give it back because she changed her mind. NOT!!!!

That Phil B is a genius. just as smart as this person probably was too:

Phil, you are exactly right. I should have stated that, sorry! Thank you for the correction because that is very true!

A donation freely given at one time, should not be refunded later based on the whim (hissy fit) of the donor. I would thank her for the donation but refuse the request.

Serendipity and volunteer: I think even worse than setting a precedent is that this "bribe" won't even work! If the person is a pain in the neck and bad mouthing the PTO even after being the leader of the organization, what makes you think that returning the lousy $75 is going to make her stop? I'd bet that person keeps on doing it regardless of whether you "paid her off" or not. You'ld end up with the same headaches AND out the $$.

Queenforthekids. Technically the donation is deductible only if the PTO is a 501c3 Non-Profit.
