Yes it does take more then a few questions to make someone decide to step down. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. At any rate I'm fine with it all.
I actually lost almost all of the info I had when my computer crashed but I have spent a lot of time the past 2 weeks trying to reconstruct it all so that the event will go on as planned. Unfortunately I have plans and can not help as much as I'd like but I'm sure it will all work out. It does concern me that in the past 2 days I have spoken with 6 people who sent in a volunteer form but have not been called. I can only hope this means that they have enough volunteers to help out.
I handed in all the info I had and wish them the best of luck!
Whew, this is getting really heated. Some of these replies sound like they are coming from the resigned board members & then those who caused the resigning. All though the bickering is entertaining lets remember we are all adults and are here for the children. Don't trash this wonderful website and forum w/your personal battle and bickering, use your personal email if you wanna sling the dirt around. It is very unfortunate that the events that took place happened but remember to be adults and work together for the children. They do follow our examples.... I sure hope everyone can work it out and that the school won't suffer. Good Luck!!!!!
Ok one reason I resigned was because it was claimed that I didnt follow the By Laws rather I allowed our membership to make decisions outside of them

Thats a very good question. As someone who has put the school and students above all else I'd like to know the answer to that myself. These wonderful new parents you are defending are too busy all of a sudden to help out -whats up with that?
Problem with many PTO's is they get all clichey. New parents come in, ask a few questions, and then the PTO officers get all defensive and resign.
Ok Sara who is unregistered. I think it takes a lot more than a few questions by new parents to get an officer to resign. As far as the clichey (mispelled) statement goes. If you do read these forums we ALL try to get people over that feeling. It is the BIGGEST excuse in the world as to why you don't want to get involved.

Your not the first PTO chair to turn over a committee and secretly hope it fails for the new person and you won't be the last. Come on, get real, PTO committees may be time consuming and require dedicated volunteers, but rarely do you have to be a rocket scientist to make it work. With wonderful resources available such as this website any dedicated volunteer can make it work. So keep your memo's and advice if you want to. You might just be surprised at what happens. I have been in the PTO for a long time and have seen these situations. The old cliches against the new parents. Whatever happened to working together for the kids? Getting defensive, taking things personally, and resigning only serve to fuel the flames. Why have bylaws if noone is going to follow them particularly the chairs and officers? If a PTO wants to deter from the bylaws then bring it up at a meeting and vote on it for heaven's sake. Revise the bylaws.
Give them the info and high-level support they need. But, don't put yourself in the middle. I'd lay low after you hand off everything unless they request help.
It might be better in the long run to have them fall flat on their faces quickly then get help to get back up rather to battle them for months over things.
