Audit of Books

Yes. Here's the exact language:
"Expenditures of $100 or less, not included in a budget line item, require approval of the Executive Board. Revisions to the budget exceeding $100 require a vote at a membership meeting."

Works for us.

Hey Critter -

That $100 rule sounds like a smart, efficient policy. Is that written specifically into your bylaws?

Our Bylaws require that the members approve any reallocation. Since we have meetings every month, that's not a big problem.

The only exception to that rule: our Exec Board has the authority to approve spending outside the budget of up to $100. For example, if we have to pay for an assembly mid-month that suddenly costs $50 more than planned, the Exec Board can go ahead and pay the bill without waiting for a meeting.

Thank ya'll for your replies. I have one more question, when your organization takes the money from another area (say student birthdays and put towards teacher appreciation) do ya'll get general membership approval to do that?

We do the same as Critter does. We don't expect our members to eat the cost. We make sure that each committee stays within the budgeted amount. We stress that everytime we get together to organize a event. If for some reason they have gone over then we must take from another area that possibly we haven't used money from. But it hasn't happened yet. It had happened once about $20.00 over and the parent was willing to donate the difference it was something they felt they wanted to do. We wanted to reimburse them but they said no. So we left it at that. We put a explaination on the paperwork. So it would be covered.
